Abstract
This work is aimed at interaction of the abrasive water jet with material in the solid state. The description is based on impact of individual particles. The amount of particles interacting with material is determined from previous models of abrasive water jet. The physical description of the impact of one particle has been prepared and, subsequently, the overall effect is calculated as the sum of individual particle impacts on material. Parallel to this one, the second physical model, based on the law of momentum conservation, has been developed. Both models are used for determination of the depth of penetration of abrasive water jet into material. The results are equal despite applied simplifying assumptions. Submitted physical descriptions of interaction have been supplied by experiments performed on various materials and with several kinds of abrasives. The parameters used for evaluation of the surface quality have been measured on cut areas. Based on the discovered facts the compensation procedures have been suggested.
