Abstract

The general objective of this thesis is to characterize and evaluate the visa issue in the Czech Republic via confrontional difference in the number of visas in the period between 2004 and 2008. The partial objective is to analyze the reasons for refusal of visa application in some member states of the European Union. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter defines the freedom of movement as one of the fundamental freedoms of the Community. There is described the development of the Schengen agreements, the recruitment of new member countries from its establishment to the present. It also defines the legal establishment of the Schengen acquis and the exceptions for Ireland, United Kingdom and Denmark. The second chapter is focused on the specific aspects of the Schengen Convention and the Schengen Information System. Finally, it describes the procedure for the acceptiation of the new Schengen Member States (candidate countries) and also the evaluation process and preparation of the Czech Republic to join the Schengen. The third chapter deals with the visa policy in the Schengen area. It characterizes the different types of visas issued by different the Schengen Member States, their conditions and visa requirements for acquiring visa in the EU. It contains detailed visa policy in the Czech Republic. There is an analysis of the data including the period from 2004 to 2008 and this data is subsequently evaluated. At the end of this section are analyzed the most common complications dealing with visa applicants in some of the Member States of the European Union are analyzed.
