Abstract

This thesis deals with the issue of the urban heat island phenomenon in Ostrava, the analysis of which is feasible on the basis of multispectral satellite data. For this purpose, selected Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 satellite images from 2018-2023 were used, and based on these data, map outputs were compiled showing the variability of land surface temperatures (LST) within one city and for different seasons. The existence of an urban heat island was subsequently determined by comparing the surface temperatures between the city and its surroundings. The subject of the analysis is also the evaluation of different types of surfaces that acquire different physical properties. From the point of view of the influence on the formation of the urban heat island, the so-called albedo is particularly important, i.e. how much a given surface receives and subsequently reflects solar radiation.
