Vybrané environmentální aspekty výskytu endokrinních disruptorů v odpadních vodách

Abstract

This thesis addresses chosen environmental aspects of the presence of endocrine disruptors in the wastewater. Chemical substances are an essential part of our everyday life. Some of them, however, may harmfully affect the environment and they also may negatively impact the hormonal balance of both human beings and other living organisms. Generally, we can refer to these substances as endocrine disruptors. Theoretical part of the research deals with current issues of contaminating the environment with micropollutants as a call to eliminate these substances during a process of wastewater treatment. Another crucial section of this thesis focuses on further defining the endocrine disruptors as well as defining their basic environmental aspects. Furthermore, the mechanism of impacts on living organisms and environment by these substances is explained. Following chapter discusses the issue of eliminating these hormonally active substances from the wastewater. Primary research deals with the analysis of the data set gathered from questionnaires in order to solve the problems from previous chapters. Is the public knowledgeable of the issue? Do people feel threatened by these substances? Primary research shows that the public is not well-informed about the topic and the public would also welcome larger enlightenment and publicity of the given topic. To conclude, this thesis points out the severe issue of endocrine disruptors in the environment, spreading out alarmingly quickly, perhaps on account of the lack of public knowledge in this matter.
