Abstract

This work is focused on the problems of the laser diffraction technique the particle size analyzer Malvern Mastersizer 2000 and the water dispersion medium during the particle size distribution analysis of submicron tungsten carbide powder. In the theoretical part, the general issues with determining the particle size distribution, the theory of light diffraction, functions and problems associated with Malvern Mastersizer 2000 and the interpretation of distribution curves are discussed. In the experimental part, the effect of various conditions setting (stirrer speed, refractive index, absorption, ultrasound intensity, surfactant/detergent) on the analysis of particle size distribution of this powder is tested. The purpose is to find the most effective methods for the deagglomeration of measured powder.
