Abstract

This work is actually composed of two main parts. The first is the description of PMD, because of what is in the optical fiber and what events it describes. Also, when the PMD manifests itself and how it manifests itself. The content of the work is also a description of the different options of measuring and different options of PMD compensation. In the second, practical part is formed several simulations. Each simulation includes a graph that describes the progress of the simulation. These simulations describe the occurrence of PMD in the fiber of different lengths and with different transmission speeds. Furthermore, the work described the impact of PMD on the transmission in PON network, which is designed in a simulation program OPTIWAVE. The impact of PMD is expressed by the degree of polarization DOP and by Q-factor.
