Abstract
The thesis deals with surface plasmon, which is excited by the incidence of p-polarized wave on the interface of a thin metal film and a dielectric medium. First, the optical properties of individual materials are analysed: metals by Drude model, dielectrics by Sellmeier equation and analytes by Lorentz-Lorenz equation. Next, Fresnel relations are used for the description of the surface plasmon resonance effect. The effect is studied in Kretschmann configuration.
