Abstract

The aim of the paper is to examine the evolution of building savings market from its inception to the present, the prognosis of its possible development as a result of forthcoming changes and comparison of building society profitability with other alternative investment options. The paper is divided into five parts including an introduction and conclusion. The second chapter describes a building society in terms of the legislative definition. Furthermore, there is described operation during the construction phase of the savings and loan savings. The third chapter focuses on the development of building savings. Building savings from its inception in 1993 continues to evolve, through a series of amendments and further changes are being prepared. The last chapter deals with the comparison of building savings with selected investment options. This chapter examines the profitability of building savings among building societies, and in relation to savings accounts, time deposits, pension and mutual funds.
