Abstract

The thesis is focused on the design and implementation of continuous measurement of the speed and length of the blank in the continuous steel casting operation. The fourth industrial revolution is the current trend of simplifying work by introducing automation in industry. The accuracy and reliability of the measurement of the casting speed is crucial for controlling the casting rate depending on the steel temperature in the tundish. Inaccuracy and unreliability in measuring the length of the blank give rise to complaints and increases the reject rate of the product. The possibilities of measuring the length and speed of the blank are becoming more sophisticated and accurate. The aim of the thesis is to compare the current possibilities of contactless measurement of the length and speed of the blank, to design a suitable sensor and to describe the integration of the sensor into the existing ZPO technology.
