Abstract

The submitted thesis focuses on the analysis of the influences affecting the oil market formation and the oil price changes; its main goal is to evaluate the possibilities of predicting oil prices in the long term perspective. The first part looks briefly at the history of oil extraction and describes the basic characteristics and markings of this important energetic raw material. The second part analyzes the most influential factors with regards to supply and demand. Influence of these factors on the oil prices fluctuation and effect of the oil price change on the gross domestic product of the importing and producing countries are examined in the third part. The last part of the thesis concerns evaluation of the actual possibilities of long term price prediction with respect to the oil reserves problems and highlights different approaches to the peak oil theory and its impacts on economics and the society.
