Abstract

The present paper describes the HOLLOTEX inlet system test performed on a heavy casting of the compressor box made of grey cast-iron. A comparison is made with the inlet system made of fire-clay which has been used at the same type of casting. The paper documents the design of the inlet system, assembly of the entire system from individual parts, molding the model equipment with subsequent assembly of the mold, process of manufacturing the grey cast-iron, casting of both the molds, finishing and final work on the finished castings prior to shipment to the customer. The file also includes the comparison of results of the visual inspection of the castings, mechanical properties and assessing the presence of intrusions in samples taken from both the inlet systems in normal and polarised light. In addition, the present paper describes the equipment intended for production of grey iron.
