Abstract

This paper is focused on off – grid systems and design batteries for these systems. Isolated power systems meet the electricity demand by generating power close to its point of utilisation. It is viewed as an option to electrify communities located in remote areas where extending the grid could be uneconomic. Batteries in stand – alone systems are necessary in order to balance demand and excess energy in the system. The result is an overview of different methods for the design of isolated systems.
