Master student loyalty at the University of Szeged
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Kéri, Anita
Researchers have long studied the internationalization process of the higher education era. There has been exten- sive research conducted among foreign students to uncover their perceived service quality and satisfaction. How- ever, there is a relatively low number of studies that deal with foreign student loyalty in -depth. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to reveal what loyalty means for foreign master’s students at the University of Szeged. This exploratory study intends to reveal factors contributing to foreign student loyalty and therefore uses qualitative in- depth interviews. Interviews were recorded at the end or towards the end of students’ study programme. Results reveal that besides certain similarities between factors influencing foreign student loyalty, there are numerous factors that only appear at the individual level of international students. We can state that master students’ loyalty differs almost for each examined individual and requires further analysis.

The determinants of mutual fund fees: International evidence
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Carneiro, Livia Mendes
The equity fund industry has grown rapidly over the past decades. The fees are one of the factors that remarkably affect the flow of funds in this industry. This paper investigates the key determinants of active funds’ total ex- pense ratios (TERs) across 32 countries between 2002 and 2018. The results indicate that larger funds and man- agement companies charge lower fees, while international funds have higher TERs. But, the higher the mutual fund industry’s concentration is the lower the active funds’ fees. My outcomes also reveal that funds past perfor- mances negatively impact the TERs charged by active equity funds and less active funds have higher fees. These results may suggest that investors have heterogeneous preferences for services or even the existence of investors with distinct performance sensitivities.

Neutral interest rate in the Czech Republic: Alternative approach based on application of TVP-VAR model
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Jursa, Lukáš; Hamová, Sára
Our objective is the estimation of the neutral interest rate in the Czech Republic spanning January 2002 to De- cember 2020. Employing the Bayesian Time-Varying Parameters (TVP) model with local prior shrinkage, our novel contribution to the existing knowledge of neutral interest rates involves the development of an estimation method utilizing the TVP-VAR model. This approach represents a modern and flexible paradigm applied within the Czech Republic's economic environment, where it has not been employed previously. Notably, our chosen econometric framework eliminates the often-challenging task of defending theoretical links. The TVP-VAR model relies on modest economic assumptions concerning the structure of a given economy, with estimates derived from empirical economic relationships among variables that contribute to the neutral interest rate. While the theory of neutral interest rates boasts a rich historical development anchored in the work of economic luminar- ies, recent years have unveiled it as a compelling subject for ongoing research. Despite being an unobserved variable, we illuminate the developmental trends of the neutral interest rate within the domestic economy. In the Czech Republic, our findings indicate a sustained and gradual decline in the neutral interest rate, settling at a negative level of approximately -0.5%. Remarkably, the neutral interest rate exhibits a stable trajectory. Compara- tive analysis with analogous surveys conducted in the euro area reveals a robust co-movement between the neutral interest rates in the Czech Republic and the euro area.

Crime and unemployment: The case of the Czech Republic
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Paličková, Irena
The connection between economics and crime was first pointed out by Gary Becker, a representative of the new institutional economics, in the 1960s. Since then, various studies have examined how the economy and economic factors, including unemployment, affect crime. It is obvious that this issue is relatively old, but still relevant. There are two theories explaining the relationship between unemployment and crime, the motivation theory and the op- portunity theory. According to motivation theory, this relationship is positive, while according to opportunity theory, this relationship is negative. However, the studies to date have not yet reached a unified conclusion. The article aims to verify the relationship between unemployment and crime in the Czech Republic using three hypotheses. The assumption that an increase in unemployment will increase crime and that this dependence will be stronger in long- term unemployment is verified. The assumption that increasing spending on unemployment benefits will lead to a reduction in crime is also verified. The hypotheses are verified using regression analysis on data from the Czech Republic from the period 1993-2000 for various types of crime, namely general, violent, property and economic crime. Since it is in the interest of every society to minimize crime, it is desirable to know whether the use of effective employment policy instruments leading to the reduction of unemployment can help this.

Determination of the capitalization rate in the selected areas of the Czech Republic
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Janáčková, Hana; Kašík, Josef
This article aims to calculate the capitalization rate in selected areas of the Czech Republic based on data obtained from actual sales in the real estate market. The purpose is to make a spatial comparison and determine whether areas with higher risk levels also show higher capitalization rates in line with theoretical assumptions. For selected urban districts of Ostrava, a comparison over time was also undertaken following similar research carried out four years ago. As the capitalization rate is also part of the valuation ordinance, a comparison was made between the capitali- zation rate stated in the ordinance and the calculated values.

Milestones of European Integration: Case of COVID-19. Can it also be understood as a stepping stone?
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Pekarčíková, Markéta
Economic integration is the starting point of every integration process around the world. The European Union (EU) is no exception and is also based on the traditional economic theory of economic integration by Bela Balassa. The European integration process began in the 1950s and the EU is considered a unique grouping of its kind. The EU must face the challenges of today. The topic of greatest discussion today is the global COVID-19 pandemic. The EU has had to help and protect the European economy, the member states, and European citizens. Today, the question is not only about economic resilience, it is about finding the best strategy to improve resilience as a whole. Based on the literature review method, the paper aims to define the theory of economic integration in the case of European integration after the Second World War and how the EU is dealing with the global COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 can be understood as a stepping stone for the EU. What is more, the European project as a whole will undergo significant change as the Union takes steps to implement the modern way of the integration process, it necessary.

Investigating the effect of external reference prices' representation on consumer behaviour with eye-tracking method
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Lipták, Lilla; Prónay, Szabolcs
According to the core principle of behavioural economics, consumers frequently apply heuristics when deciding which can lead to biased perceptions and decisions. In our investigation we concentrated some particular types of these heuristics, namely loss aversion, framing and reference point, when investigating the effect of external refermaking. In our research we implemented an eye-tracking method and complemented it with interviews and a short attitudinal survey at the end of the experiment. Our aim was to investigate the effect of the above- price evaluation and decision-making. We found that those who fixated on the prices longer could recall them more precisely. Furthermore, we found, that people concentrate more on the original prices when evaluating a sale offer, therefore, it is advisable to highlight the original price, which is a reference point, instead of the sale price. Surprisingly we found a negative connection between price consciousness and the fixation duration spent on the prices

The Influence of Customers' Satisfaction Factors on their Behaviour in Co-creating a Company's Services
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Grendysa, David
This paper deals with the influence of customer satisfaction factors on customers' behaviour in co-creating a company's services. It has recently become one of the most interesting marketing topics. Additionally, since the field under study is also a new service in the consumer market, that is, self-service laundries, then this is an unexplored area of application of this theory in this new sector of services. In self-service laundries, the customers are largely involved in providing/receiving the service from the principle of this type of business; that is, the customers wash and dry the delivered laundry themselves. At the same time, their satisfaction with the service provided and related recommendations to potential customers, the assistance that they give to other customers and the provision of feedback to the company to aid the further improvement of its services play a substantial role here. Linking customer satisfaction measurement theory and consumer behaviour the- ory can show which service factors have a greater or lesser influence on customer satisfaction and demon- strate the link between customers' satisfaction and their willingness to participate in the firm's services. The results show which service factors influence customer satisfaction and identify a link between customers' satisfaction and their willingness to participate in a company's services.

Book Review: Mariano Anderle (Editor), Innovations in Land, Water and Energy for Vietnam's Sustainable Development
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Dieu, Ngyuen Thi My; Schwarz, Michal
Sustainable development has become a global trend. South East Asia s recent rapid economic growth, particularly that in Vietnam, presents issues for land, water and energy management as well as for urban planning and environmental preservation. Environmental management systems have been created and implemented effectively in a number of industrialized as well as developing countries. However, this approach is still unfamiliar in Vietnam, and Vietnamese businesses have not embraced new methods as a means of achieving sustainability. The reviewed book discusses vulnerable natural development in the twentieth century. Its primary contribution is to make applicable solutions available.

Linguistic and legal comprehensibility of the text
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Halfar, Bohuslav; Halfarová, Libuše; Bučková, Michaela
The present article pays attention to the comprehensibility oflegal text. Comprehensibility is discussed here both in the legal context as a requirement for the legal language enshrined in Czech legislation, and from the linguistic point ofview as a requirement for the legal language within its functional style. The practical analysis of comprehensibility is performed here, both on the basis of objective measurement of certain elements of the text using the formula LIX and subjective measurement using the Hamburg model of compr

International volunteering in countries implications for international students volunteering
(Vysoká škola báňská - Technická univerzita Ostrava, 2022) Dostál, Jakub; Kéri, Anita
Volunteering has long been a question of great interest in the research field. In light of recent trends, such as increased emphasis on the internationalization of higher education, it is becoming extremely difficult to ignore the existence of people volunteering internationally. However, few studies have examined the possibilities of international students to volunteer. The objective of this current research is to determine and analyse the current projects available for potential volunteers in the Visegrad 4 (V4) countries at the European Solidarity Corps. This paper introduces initial results on the topic, while refraining from entailing the economic effects of volunteering. We found about 650 organizations from V4 countries registered in the European Youth Portal, offering, or hosting, almost 100 projects with volunteering opportunities for international volunteers. Available volunteer activities were enlisted and analysed manually to determine what organizations offer to whom, how and why. Results indicate that the volunteering infrastructure in V4 countries is at least partially ready for international students volunteering
