Item type: Item , 3D desktop virtual reality as a facilitator of the learning quality and of strengthening students’ results(Taylor & Francis, 2024) Hvorecký, Jozef; Rozehnal, Petr; Funioková, Taťána; Gurný, PetrApplications of Virtual Reality in education are becoming more and more frequent. A desktop-based 3D virtual reality environment has been piloted at our university. The aim was to analyse the impact of VRE implementation on results of students. Two educational experiments were conducted in order to evaluate its effect on students' outcomes in the university courses of Finance (N = 177; age 20-24) and Marketing (N = 157; age 20-24). In the case of Finance, a positive impact was demonstrated, while in Marketing, the resulting picture was inconsistent. After disclosing this disproportion, the authors discuss which factors could lead to the differences and what and how could be changed in order to increase the impact of virtual reality on students' results.Item type: Item , Risk management in Islamic banking: The impact of financial technologies through empirical insights from the UAE(MDPI, 2024) Al Hammadi, Mohamed; Jimber del Río, Juan Antonio; Ochoa-Rico, María Salomé; Montero, Orlando Arencibia; Vergara-Romero, ArnaldoFinancial technology (fintech) innovations are transforming banking globally. Their adoption poses new opportunities and risks for Islamic banks with unique requirements. This study examines fintech's implications for risk management effectiveness in United Arab Emirates Islamic banks. A conceptual model incorporates factors like fintech adoption, emerging capabilities, digital maturity, and IT security influencing outcomes. Primary data were collected via survey from nine UAE Islamic banks and analyzed using PLS-SEM. Results show that fintech adoption and capabilities positively impacted effectiveness, while digital transformation alone did not. The findings also show that the regulatory environment did not moderate relationships as hypothesized. The findings provide empirical evidence on optimizing risk management through responsible fintech enablement and oversight alignment in the UAE context.Item type: Item , Have familiness values increased during COVID-19? Czech family business case(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd., 2023) Mikušová, Marie; Friedrich, Václav; Horváthová, Petra; Meier, VojtěchThe topic of this research is familiness which is made up of a number of items that are both visible and silent, influencing each other. The aim is to determine whether the familiness items have changed as a result of COVID-19, and thus highlight potential vulnerabilities. Online survey is based on the F-PEC model. Data from 900 respondents collected in 2019 and 2021 were statistically processed to test research questions and hypotheses. The basic outputs show that the items of Power and Experience grew stronger during the pandemic. Threats were identified in the Culture items. Theoretical implication lies in the contribution to the family business research base as this offers results from the view of their survival. The results of the Culture pillar are very worrying. There is a practical implication in identifying them, as these findings can direct relevant institutions to assist family businesses that clearly need it to survive.Item type: Item , The effect of government expenditures on the economic and institucional dimension of governance in European countries(Univerzita Pardubice, Fakulta ekonomicko-správní, 2023) Halásková, Renata; Halásková, Martina; Pomp, MarekThe aim of the study is to examine the effect of government expenditures on institutional and economic dimensions of governance from the standpoint of selected indicators. We evaluate the effect of government expenditures on selected governance indicators (government effectiveness, regulatory quality and the control of corruption) according to two dimensions (institutional and economic dimension of governance). The research covers the period 2002-2021, applying a panel data analysis and the fixed effects method on the sample of 29 European countries. For the purposes of further examination, the European countries are divided into two groups (by GDP per capita in PPS). The results confirmed the effect of differing categories of government expenditures on the evaluated indicators of governance between European countries with higher and lower economic levels. European countries with a higher economic level manifested the strongest positive effect of government expenditures on secondary education and expenditures on police services in relation to the economic dimension of governance (government effectiveness and regulatory quality). The results of countries with a lower economic level show that the control of corruption is affected, both positively and negatively, by government expenditures on education. Government expenditures on pre-primary and primary education had the largest impact in the economic dimension of governance in relation to the reduction of government effectiveness and government expenditures on sporting and recreational services in terms of the reduction of regulatory quality. The reached findings can be beneficial to creators of public policies at all levels of public administration in the creation of concepts and strategic goals.Item type: Item , On a parametric K-fold series and its connection to Nielsen-Kölbig relations(Elsevier, 2023) Genčev, MarianItem type: Item , Potential of the projective Colour Association Method to refl ect physiological responses to stimuli with a diff erent emotional charge (PARC study) – a study protocol(Česká neurologická společnost ČLS JEP. Česká neurochirurgická společnost ČLS JEP. Slovenská neurologická spoločnosť. Slovenská neurochirurgická spoločnosť. Společnost dětské neurologie ČLS JEP., 2022) Školoudík, David; Balcar, Jiří; Penhaker, Marek; Šalounová, Dana; Wedlichová, IvaMeasurement of many important psychological concepts, such as health-related quality of life, satisfaction with different types of public and private services, personality, or attitudes, is most often based on various questionnaires. Nevertheless, this method is based on the subjective testimony of an individual about his/ her features, feelings, attitudes, etc. It provides relevant responses only when respondents have well developed introspection, a reason to open up, express themselves, and provide adequate and relevant answers. Projective methods represent an alternative option to measure psychological concepts with the potential reduction of conscious or unconscious bias. The Colour Association Method (CA method) is an advanced projective technique, based on principles of the Luscher colour test and word associations, which uses an objective computer data evaluation and thus overcomes one of the main weaknesses of projective methods. The study aims to investigate the ability of standard questionnaire and CA method to capture the responses of humans to different stimuli with emotional charge. A sample of 101 individuals will be used for this purpose, where each of them will be exposed to 145 different predefined stimuli. Comparison of physiological responses (cerebral blood fl ow, electrical activity of the brain, heart rate variability, and skin conductance response) to these stimuli and the perception of the stimuli measured by the questionnaire and CA method will be performed to determine which method provides a more accurate information on the real perception of the stimuli. These findings may have important consequences for the use of the questionnaire and the CA method to measure different psychological concepts.Item type: Item , First- and second-order linear difference equations with constant coefficients: suggestions for making the theory more accessible(Taylor & Francis, 2022) Genčev, Marian; Šalounová, DanaThe aim of this paper is to present a teaching proposal for the theoretical part relating to the first- and second-order linear difference equations with constant coefficients suitable for the first-year students at various types of universities. In contradistinction to the methods often applied (memorization of algorithms without a proper conceptual understanding), we provide an alternative methodological way-out for lecturers that is partially based on posing suitable questions and constructing the knowledge. Our approach is therefore characterized by the minimal input knowledge imposed on students. In fact, we assume that students are acquainted only with the summation of terms of geometric sequences and with solving linear and quadratic equations.Item type: Item , Evaluation of key R&D areas in the context of economic development: Evidence from self-governing regions of the Czech Republic(Institute for Local Self-Government and Public Procurement Maribor, 2022) Halásková, Renata; Halásková, Martina; Friedrich, VáclavThe paper deals with crucial areas of research potential in regional conditions of the 14 Czech self-governing regions in years 2015 and 2020. For the analysis 11 indicators of research and development (R&D) are applied by use of multivariate methods. The results showed internal similarities of the Czech regions by the three created R&D factors in 2020. We investigated the relationship in Czech regions between the created factors of research potential (in the public sector, the business enterprise sector, potential human resources) on one side and economic level of regions and total R&D expenditures as percentage of regional GDP on the other side. The achieved findings from self-governing Czech regions can be a valuable source for creators of regional R&D strategies in the Czech Republic.Item type: Item , Does political orientation affect economic indicators in the Czech Republic?(Elsevier, 2022) Krajňák, Michal; Krzikallová, Kateřina; Friedrich, VáclavAbstract The article evaluates the relationship between the tax burden on labor and magic quadrangle indicators in the Czech Republic in the years 1993 through 2020. The article examines whether indicators such as the effective rate or tax rate on labor affect the macro-economic indicators of the magic quadrangle. The originality of this study lies in the fact that it deals with the influence of political factors. The analysis shows the strongest correlation between the growth of gross domestic product and the implicit tax rate on labor. Moreover, the study finds that the factor with the most significant - and surprising - bearing on the findings is that fact that right-wing Parliament behaved like left-wing parties. The conclusions reached by this study further underline the significance of the tax burden on labor on the selected magic quadrangle indicators.Item type: Item , Studijní protokol – robotická terapie chůze pomocí přístroje Lokomat Pro FreeD u pacientů v subakutní fázi ischemické cévní mozkové příhody(Česká neurologická společnost ČLS JEP. Sběr dat probíhá ve čtyřech časových obdobích: před zahájením intervence (T0), v polovině intervence (T1; 8. den), hodnocení po ukončení rehabilitace (T2; 15. den) a 3 měsíce po ukončení (T3).Item type: Item , A weighted sum formula for alternating multiple zeta-star values(Springer Nature, 2021) Genčev, MarianIn the last decade, many authors essentially contributed to the attractive theory of multiple zeta values. Nevertheless, since their introduction in 1992, there are still many hypotheses and open problems waiting to be solved. The aim of this paper is to develop a method for transforming the multiple zeta-star values. zeta*({2}(K), c) leading to a new sum formula for alternating multiple zeta-star values. Its most simple case has the intelligible form Sigma(c-2)(t=0) (-2)(t+1) Sigma(i >= 2,s is an element of Nt)(i+vertical bar s vertical bar-c) zeta*((i) over bar, s) = (-1)(c) . zeta(c). As a by-product, we also establish a closed form for a new harmonic-like finite summation containing binomial coefficients.Item type: Item , Econometric analysis of integration of selected new EU member CEE stock markets with global stock market and Eurozone: Impact of global financial crisis(Editura ASE, 2021) Sucháček, Jan; Koutský, Jaroslav; Caridad López del Río, Lorena; Seďa, PetrThe period of the global financial crisis can be characterized by the spillover of negative innovations among stock markets worldwide. Stock markets in Central Europe were not excluded as they are not isolated from global stock markets. Recently published scientific studies dealing with this theme were mainly focused on the integration of the new EU members´ stock markets with the eurozone only. Hence, this paper aims to investigate, compare and interpret integration among stock markets of selected new EU member states in Central Europe (the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland), the global stock market and the eurozone equity market within 2004-2018. The added value of this article consists especially in using a wider spectrum of econometric tools (cointegration, VAR model, Granger causality, variance decomposition) and comparison of changes of mutual relationships in three different testing sub-periods to study the dynamics in time. Our research is accomplished via usage of data on daily frequency. Delivered results showed that the degree of integration of Central European stock markets with the US stock market and eurozone significantly increased during global financial crisis. Moreover, stock markets in Central Europe are more integrated with the global stock market than the euro area.Item type: Item , Hydrocephalus caused by primary fourth ventricle outlet obstruction: Our experience and literature review(Elsevier, 2021) Krejčí, Ondřej; Krejčí, Tomáš; Mrůzek, Michael; Večeřa, Zdeněk; Šalounová, Dana; Lipina, RadimOBJECTIVE: Primary fourth ventricle outlet obstruction (PFVOO) is a rare cause of hydrocephalus with an unclear etiopathogenesis, and thus, consensus regarding the recommended treatment protocol is lacking. This study aims to summarize current knowledge of this condition in the light of our own treatment experience. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was carried out of all patients treated for noncommunicating tetraventricular hydrocephalus between 2006 and 2019, from which a subgroup of patients with PFVOO was created. A literature review of PFVOO cases was also carried out. RESULTS: A total of 62 patients with PFVOO were discovered, of whom 8 were treated at our institution, representing 3.8% of our patients with noncommunicating hydrocephalus. Patients most commonly presented with headaches, gait disturbance, or symptoms of intracranial hypertension. The mean follow-up duration was 75.4 months among our patients and 29.9 months in the literature. Most patients (54.8%) were treated by endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), with the remainder undergoing suboccipital craniotomy alone (17.7%) or in combination with shunt surgery (9.7%), or endoscopic magendieplasty (12.9%). Treatment failure was noted in 28.6% of ETVs and 9% of craniotomies. No failures were recorded after endoscopic magendieplasty. The risk of treatment failure was found to be significantly higher with ETV compared with other treatment modalities (P < 0.0005). CONCLUSIONS: Despite the fact that PFVOO can be defined as an obstructive hydrocephalus, there seems to be a higher risk of ETV failure in such cases. The alternative treatment modalities presented are still recommended. Confirmation of these findings requires a larger multicenter study.Item type: Item , Area of the right atrium of the fetal heart and its significance in fetuses with tricuspid regurgitation(Taylor & Francis, 2021) Pavlíček, Jan; Klásková, Eva; Šalounová, Dana; Tomášková, Hana; Piegzová, Alicja; Gruszka, Tomáš; Kacerovský, MarianObjectives: The first aim was to develop a nomogram for the area of the right atrium (ARA) of the fetal heart in uncomplicated singleton pregnancies. The second aim was to assess diagnostic indices of ARA to distinguish between tricuspid regurgitation (TR) with and without concomitant congenital heart defect (CDH). Methods: The study was conducted between 2014 and 2019. Fetal echocardiography was performed on fetuses with and without TR. For the first aim, ARA was measured in 460 fetuses without proven structural and chromosomal abnormalities, and for the second aim, ARA was measured in 1077 fetuses with TR. Results: A nomogram for the ARA of fetuses with normal hearts was developed. TR was observed in 4.5% (1077/23,771) of euploid fetuses; 4.3% (1020/23,771) of fetuses had TR without a concomitant CHD, and 0.2% (57/23,771) fetuses had TR with a concomitant CHD. No significant differences in ARAs were found between fetuses with normal hearts without TR (n = 22,694) and fetuses with TR without CHD (n = 1020; p = .751). Fetuses with TR and CHDs had different ARA than fetuses with normal hearts without TR and fetuses with TR without CHD (p < .0005 in both cases). Conclusions: ARA seems to be an auxiliary marker to distinguish the presence of CHD in fetuses with TR.Item type: Item , Who is more sustainable? Family business or non-family business? Czech evidence(MDPI, 2020) Mikušová, Marie; Friedrich, Václav; Horváthová, PetraThe aim of this research was to find out whether family businesses create better opportunities for their economic sustainability in comparison with non-family businesses. That is, whether family businesses are more responsible in preparing for crises than non-family businesses. Having a sustainable business means being prepared for potential threats of all kinds. Research was carried out in 2019 on a sample of 2300 family and non-family enterprises. On the basis of statistically processed results, a minimum of significant differences in preparation for the crisis was identified. Even the basic hypothesis about a more responsible approach by family businesses to prepare for the crisis could not be accepted. It could not be noted that family businesses are building better conditions for their economic sustainability. The implication for praxis is to encourage owners to involve the family more in the preparation for crises, including development of formalised tools. Predetermined tools will help in solving crises that threaten the source of livelihoods of the whole family. The comparison of family and non-family businesses in this area, as yet unexplored, has the potential to contribute to the deepening of research in both crisis management and family business, which is the main contribution to the theoretical field.Item type: Item , Parents’ request for termination of pregnancy due to a congenital heart defect of the fetus in a country with liberal interruption laws(Taylor & Francis, 2020) Pavlíček, Jan; Gruszka, Tomáš; Polanská, Slávka; Doležálková, Erika; Matura, David; Špaček, Richard; Šimetka, Ondřej; Šalounová, Dana; Kacerovský, MarianObjectives:This study aimed to evaluate the prenatal rate of congenital heart defects (CHDs) and the frequency of termination of pregnancy (TOP) due to a CHD, depending on the severity of the defect and concomitant diseases of the fetus. Methods:The data were assessed retrospectively between 2002 and 2017. Ultrasound examination was performed mostly in the second trimester. For analysis, the CHDs were divided into three groups of severity and three groups of fetus impairment. Results:A total of 40,885 fetuses underwent echocardiography. The CHDs were detected in 1.0% (398/40,885) and were an isolated anomaly in 69% (275/398). Forty-nine percent (197/398) of families decided to TOP. In all groups of severity, the rate of TOP rose linearly when comparing isolated defects and cases with associated morphological and genetic impairments. The TOP was significantly dependent on the associated anomalies in patients with the most correctable defects (p < .001) and the severity of CHDs in isolated cases without any other impairment (p < .001). Conclusion:The parents' decision to terminate increased with the severity of the defect and the associated anomalies of the fetus. The parents were mostly influenced by the associated anomalies when the CHD was correctable, and genetic factors played a more important role than morphological ones.Item type: Item , The role of third ventricle bowing in the success of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in pediatric and adult patients(Elsevier, 2019) Krejčí, Tomáš; Krejčí, Ondřej; Večeřa, Zdeněk; Chlachula, Martin; Šalounová, Dana; Lipina, RadimObjective: Preoperative third ventricle deformation (known as 'bowing') is associated with higher endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) success. In children, the effect of bowing has not to date been systematically studied. Aim of of this study is to determine the effect of bowing on ETV success in adult and child patients. Patients and methods: In this retrospective, monocentric study were included 135 (70 adults and 65 children) of 157 patients who underwent ETV between 2008-2016, with mean follow-up 4.3 years. Presence and extent of bowing and its impact on ETV outcome were evaluated. Third ventricular anatomy was assessed on pre- and postoperative MR imaging. Results: In patients > 6 months old, the ETV success rate was 91% in bowing-positive cases and 47.6% in bowing-negative cases. Among patients < 6 months old, ETV was successful in 37% of those with bowing and 36.4% of those without. Presence of bowing strongly indicates ETV success in patients older than 6 months (p < 0.000 5), including children of 7 months and older (p 0.001). This relationship was not confirmed in pediatric patients up to 6 months old (p 1.000). The extent of bowing does not influence ETV success (p 0.559). Bowing correction strongly correlates with ETV success (p < 0.000 5). Conclusion: We confirmed significant correlation between bowing and ETV success in patients over 6 months old. This relationship was not determined in those younger than 6 months and therefore we do not recommend bowing in ETV indication criteria for this patient cohort.Item type: Item , The productivity of main services of city libraries: Using the example from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic(Elsevier, 2019) Vrabková, Iveta; Friedrich, VáclavThe evaluation of productivity of main services of city libraries using the example of 48 large public libraries and 44 small public libraries from the Czech and the Slovak Republic was performed according to the decomposition of the input-oriented Malmquist index (MI). The results of MI achieved are evaluated using a confidence interval and the bootstrap method. The productivity of main services of public libraries was studied for the year 2016 in comparison with the year 2012. On average, small as well as large libraries exhibit a statistically significant decline in productivity. The average value of the MI of small libraries is 1.29. The average value of the MI of large libraries is 1.16. The deterioration of productivity was caused by lower efficiency of the inputs. The small as well as the large libraries on average exhibit a comparable level of productivity in both studied years. This conclusion is the same for the Czech and for the Slovak libraries as well as for all libraries together. The Czech libraries, when compared with the Slovak ones, achieve better results in terms of productivity. The higher productivity of the Czech libraries in comparison with the Slovak ones is caused by the improvement of efficiency of the inputs, not by the technological changes.Item type: Item , On some weighted sum formulas involving general multiple zeta-type series(Elsevier, 2019) Genčev, MarianThe purpose of this paper is a study of the general finite sums Phi N,d(K) := Sigma(N >= n1 >=...>= nk >= 1) Pi(K)(j=1) A (inverted right perpendicular nj/d inverted left perpendicular), d is an element of N, that generalize the truncated multiple harmonic sums zeta(star)(N)({s}(K)) corresponding to d = 1 and A(n) = 1/n(s) with s is an element of N. Surprisingly, when specializing our general transformation result concerning Phi(dN,d)(K), such a type of finite sums can be used for generating and closed-form evaluation of new linear combinations of multiple Hurwitz zeta-star values of the form Sigma(s proves K max(s)<= d) zeta(star) (cs; a). Pi(l(s))(r=1) ((-1)(sr-1).(d s(r))), assuming (a, c, d, K) is an element of R x N-3 with a > -1, c > 1, where the sum is extended over all compositions of K with maximal part not exceeding d.Item type: Item , On a proof of the inequality between the arithmetic and geometric means(Taylor & Francis, 2018) Genčev, MarianThe goal of this short note is the presentation of an elementary proof of the well-known inequality between the arithmetic and geometric means. Our approach shows that the proof reduces to simple polynomial manipulations only.
