Abstract

This work deals with the use of DEM in the vertical screw conveyor for bulk materials. Usability DEM assumed input parameters, which can be obtained only by experimental and laboratory activities in the field of transport and the properties of bulk materials. This is essentially a friction parameters describing the flow characteristics of the transport device. Without such knowledge, the use of DEM limited to comparative methods influence of geometrical variations of contact surfaces or particles themselves. With the knowledge of mechanical and physical properties of bulk materials and contact geometry is extended to the use of DEM simulation of the real behaviour of the transported material and the effect on transport equipment. You cannot achieve this state but without verification matching of simulation and real state. The DEM is needed to calibrate the ranges of values observed in a laboratory environment. Further experiments are needed to obtain particle velocities for different traffic conditions at the vertical spiral conveyor in the EDEM Academic. In the same way you need to get the value of a real machine using PIV The conclusion summarizes the results and benefits of activities in this area.
