Abstract

The advancement in modern technology opens various new possibilities, including much faster railway transportation. The railway transportation advancement is visible everywhere – locomotives are more powerful, trains are capable of tilting, which allows them to pass curves easily, and railway points may be crossed at higher speeds. To maintain security, all parts of the railway must be safely and tightly fastened to the ground. This can be achieved with fixation systems that firmly connect the track to the ground using a railway sleeper placed on a subgrade. Fixation systems need to be properly and carefully controlled to make sure their functionality is following required standards. Controls should be carried out both directly on the railway (to monitor the actual state of fixation) and in laboratory conditions, which may lead to new ways of secure track fastening.
