Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the design of steam separator and associated re-heater. The document is based on predefined set of parameters. The first part of this document is devoted to a description of a nuclear power plant, mainly focusing on process of steam management in the secondary circuit. Because of moisture content in the steam that enters a low-pressure section of a turbine the separator and re-heater are incorporated. Since each nuclear power station has its specific requirements, these two devices must be customised. Therefore I only focus on basic grouping of these devices by type and principle. Further, I am providing additional examples that have been used at another nuclear power station. The second part of this thesis document contains applicable calculations. To be able to correctly size (optimise) both devices, I have used heat transfer calculations. Subsequently pressure and strength calculations of individual components are conducted. In conclusion I summarise my calculated results and describe the proposed installation.
