Abstract
This Master's Thesis deals with the strength assessment and thermal analysis of ingot tongs
with a load capacity of 25,000 kg, designed for handling loads at temperatures up to 1,100 °C.
The objective of the thesis is to perform a comprehensive structural analysis with an emphasis
on verifying the safety and operational reliability of the design, including a comparison of the
suitability of S355 and S690QL steels for the load-bearing frame of the tongs. The thesis
structure includes a heat transfer analysis considering radiation, an analytical check of the pins,
and a detailed FE analysis of the entire tongs structure applying temperature-dependent
material properties in compliance with basic safety standards. The structural design of the tongs
is documented in the appendices of the thesis.
