Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the principles of developing distributed control systems and their practical application in the university laboratory conditions using the ABB Ability™ System 800xA platform. The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes the differences between centralized, decentralized and distributed control and discusses in detail concepts such as scalability, redundancy and mechanisms for ensuring data consistency in the context of industrial automation. The practical part is focused on the design and implementation of a distributed network architecture that solves the problem of enabling data transfer from the proprietary RNRP and the standard MMS protocol over the university network using a Site-to-Site VPN tunnel with data encapsulation. The solution includes complete configuration of the ABB AC 800M control unit, mapping software variables to I/O channels of S800 series modules and developing a control application for a process simulator based on the functional description. An ergonomic operator interface was created for the entire technology in the PG2 graphical editor with support for alarm reporting, trends and real-time diagnostics. The result of the work is a functional distributed control system, which forms a comprehensive professional basis for teaching and research in the field of advanced industrial automation at the Department of Machine and Process Control of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of VŠB-TUO.
