Abstract
This thesis deals with the experimental analysis of emissions generated from a component of an automotive air filter, which is an essential part of every vehicle. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the current state of knowledge in the given field, including basic information about automotive air filters, polyurethane (PUR) foam, and its decomposition during thermal degradation. After introducing regulations in the field of occupational health and safety, the thesis further addresses the properties and exposure potential of diisocyanates. The theoretical part also includes a description of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The practical part involves the analysis of emissions produced from a component of an automotive air filter using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, a flue gas analyzer, and a furnace assembled according to the DIN 53 436 standard. Finally, the thesis proposes measures aimed at ensuring the safety of workers who come into contact with these components.
