Muzeum současného umění – Rohan

Abstract

The diploma thesis focuses on the design of the Rohan Museum of Contemporary Art, located on Rohan Island in the Karlín district of Prague. The aim of the project is to create an architectural concept for a cultural institution that builds upon the existing urban structure and contributes to the further development of this part of the city. The design seeks to integrate the building into the context of the Karlín waterfront and to establish connections with the adjacent Maniny Park and the Vltava River embankment. The project emphasizes the creation of an open public space that fosters the interaction between art, architecture, and everyday urban life. The building is intended not only as a venue for the presentation of contemporary art but also as a place for encounter, dialogue, and the sharing of cultural values. The outcome of the thesis is an architectural study that combines aesthetic, functional, and urban principles, exploring how contemporary architecture can contribute to shaping the identity of Karlín and Rohan Island.
