Abstract

This bachelor's thesis deals with influence of soot on wear and friction coefficient austenitic stainless steels Type 309 and 310, which are used for production of different turbocharger components and they are characterized by resistance to corrosion and high-temperature oxidation. In the most of the published articles, which have been exploring the impact of soot on wear of materials, were soot mixed with oil, however, such approach can’t be used in the case of turbocharger components, where dry friction occurs. The theoretical part is generally focused on friction, wear, soot and use of stainless steels in turbochargers. The practical part describes the tribological tests, which simulate real contact of components (vane shaft placed in hole of VNT system ring) in turbocharger. The first part of the tests was conducted at 300°C and at 700°C temperatures without application of soot and the second part at the same temperatures with the soot application. The tests were evaluated and the results were compared. The effect of soot was determined for the material combination. In future, the results might be verified by component or motor testing. It would also be possible to focus on procedure of soot application on the test specimens.
