Abstract
The subject of this thesis is the design of embankments, in particular embankment modelling, subsoil settlement calculations, monitoring and recommendations for the construction itself. The thesis focuses on a specific section of the future D35 motorway, namely the stretch constructed between Opatovice and Časy. The first section of the thesis deals with exploratory work which provided the sources needed to establish geological and geotechnical data for the future construction of embankments. Based on this data, the fundamental types of embankments are described. The second section of the thesis provides a detailed assessment of the geology in the selected motorway stretch. The assessment includes the construction technology of the specific embankments and laboratory analyses conducted to evaluate the materials used for the embankment construction. As a result, new computational models were made to predict embankment settlement and its stability. The following section compares the settlement values measured by hydrostatic levelling and the values assumed by the computational model. It includes possible causes of the changes in subsoil and embankment consolidation related to the construction development and recommends changes to the geotechnical survey. The final section of the thesis assesses the selected stretch as a whole and offers further recommendations for the construction of the embankments.
