Abstract

This thesis is focused on the technical efficiency of 20 selected elementary schools for children between the ages of 6–15 established as a state-funded institutions of the City of Ostrava during the school years 2011/12 to 2015/16. There were used two models of Data Envelopment Analysis to evaluate the effectiveness. The estimate of the technical efficiency in terms of inputs focuses on the number of classes, number of employees, the labour costs amount in relation to the fundamental output in the form of the actual number of pupils. The results show that the input oriented model with constant returns of scale is the most technically efficient on average 30% of selected elementary schools, while the technical efficiency in this model ranges from 73% to 99% at the other elementary schools. In the second input oriented model with variable yields from the range is the maximum technically effective on average 51% of the selected elementary schools, while the technical efficiency in this model ranges from 90% to 99% at remaining elementary schools.
