Abstract

Brown coal mining is very important for the needs of national economy in the Czech Republic. Problems with disconnection of overlying hard clay and claystone positions increase with open pit mines getting deeper into complicated geological excavating conditions. The mining in very hard horizons means destruction of teeth and edges. Abrasion by mined material adds to force effects in sandy clays with lenses and in sandstones. The research of relations between the geometry of the edge (tooth) of the disconnecting member of a wheel excavator (bucket) and appropriate energy consumption,life-time, the bucket position, and a thermogram in given geological conditions using the latest measuring devices and evaluation meyhodology is the basic idea of this presented doctor thesis.
