Abstract
The thesis addresses the preparedness of the Zlín Region in the context of the anticipated changes in the regional labour market, predicted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The thesis describes and compares the possible development of the regional labour market with the current trends in the field of employment, especially the trends of automation, robotization and digitalization.
The method of desk research was chosen. The field survey method was not used due to the sufficient amount of relevant data available. Research was carried out on publications, research projects, annual reports, mostly from the library of the Research Institute of Labour and Social Affairs, but also on strategic documents of the Zlín Region. This was followed by a search of formal and informal documents, annual, press and internet reports. The methods of dynamic time series and comparative analysis, deduction and induction were also used.
The research found that the Zlín Region is not sufficiently prepared for changes in the labour market. The region is still considered less attractive compared to surrounding regions. In terms of employment, the key sector in the region is the manufacturing industry, which has long required mainly low-skilled employees for production. The situation is slowly changing with the advent of Industry 4.0, and with it the requirements for employee competences. Vocational education is becoming one of the strong demands of employers, but the regional education system is facing a multi-year decline in apprenticeship courses. The share of employment is increasing in the tertiary sector, mainly as a result of rising employment in sales, education and health and social services, where long-term growth is also forecast for the future. While higher education offers a wide range of attractive fields of study, the region is unable to retain graduates due to low wage levels.
The conclusion is that although the Zlín Region is not currently prepared for changes in the labour market, it is moving towards it in the long term. Attention should be focused, and the research of strategic documents also shows this, on the information technology sector, which will intermingle with all sectors of the national economy in the framework of digitisation, robotisation and automation.
