Detekcia a monitorovanie urbanizácie pomocou radarových dát Sentinel-1

Abstract

This diploma thesis focuses on detecting urbanization trends using radar satellite data from the Sentinel-1 mission, combined with optical data from the Sentinel-2 mission. The main objective of the thesis was to test and evaluate the possibilities of detecting new built- up areas using various change detection methods in four selected locations, specifically in Bratislava, Trnava, Ostrava, and Žilina. The thesis consists of three parts. The theoretical part describes the process of urbanization, its causes, factors, and consequences. Then it focuses on the principles of remote sensing, the characteristics of radar and optical satellite data, spectral indices, change detection methods, and the Copernicus program, including the Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 missions. The practical part describes the used software and data processing procedure, which included preprocessing of satellite images, change detection calculations, spectral index calculations, image classification, and its validation using orthophotos. The final part of the thesis evaluates the expansion of new development in selected locations and compares the accuracy of the results from the various change detection methods.
