This study shows a possible solution for the modification of the intersection of the II/648 and II/477 roads in Frydek-Mistek. The purpose of the reconstruction is to mitigate the traffic flow, increase the safety and optimize the capacity of the intersection. Additionally, the design of the walking and cycling zone in the surroundings of the intersection is considered. The first part of this study analyses the current situation of the intersection. Based on a research of the present traffic, the peak traffic volume and the average daily volume (per year) are calculated, as well as an estimation of the traffic volume in the year 2038. Furthermore, this section includes traffic accident analysis and information on the principles of territorial development and the town plan of Frýdek-Místek. In the next part of the work, three different proposals are discussed. The first option is the most economical and requires minimal financial costs. The second proposal consists of a roundabout using 2 bypasses. After that, a turbo roundabout is discussed. All suggested proposals are verified using the “beam curves” of AutoTURN 8. The last section of this study includes an evaluation and comparison of all the above-mentioned proposals. The winning proposal is selected based on multi-criteria evaluation. Finally, the winning proposal is further elaborated in more detail.
