Abstract

Thesis supervisor: doc. RNDr. Karla Barčová, Ph.D. This thesis deals with the issue of influencing the results of polygraph testing through selected stimulants. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the principles of polygraph functioning, which monitors the autonomic nervous system, and describes in detail physiological parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, galvanic skin response, and respiration. The thesis also focuses on the pharmacodynamics of commonly available and illegal stimulants (e.g., caffeine, nicotine) and their ability to modulate the body's stress response. The practical part of the work is based on experimental measurements aimed at analyzing whether and to what extent these substances can distort the interpretation of the data obtained (so-called countermeasures). The research compares the reactions of the control group with the reactions of subjects under the influence of stimulants in standardized tests (e.g., the peak tension test). The results of the work should contribute to a better understanding of the limitations of polygraph testing in practice and provide recommendations for investigating professionals in identifying attempts to consciously or unconsciously influence physiological recordings.
