Abstract

Sa Kyaw Htet Aung. Modular Reactor - General Analysis, Current State of Art, Possibilities for installation and Used for Selected Location. Bachelor Thesis. Ostrava: VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Power Engineering, 2025, 54 p. Head of thesis: Ing. Ondřej Němček, Ph.D. This thesis mainly focuses on the idea, concept and development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), with an emphasis on their potential deployment in the Czech Republic as a replacement for existing coal-fired power plants. The work provides a theoretical overview of SMR technologies, particularly the BWRX-300 reactor developed by GE Hitachi. A detailed analysis is conducted to evaluate the feasibility of implementing this reactor in Dětmarovice, where the current power plant primarily uses black coal. The study includes calculations of power output, heat supply for district heating, fuel consumption, and a comparison of operational parameters. The results show that the BWRX-300 is a promising low-carbon energy alternative, capable of maintaining reliable electricity and heat supply while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This thesis contributes to the ongoing discussion on transitioning to sustainable energy systems in the Czech Republic.
