Abstract

This master's thesis deals with the mechanical design of fixtures for the pad printing process of brake calipers at Brembo. The main objective is to increase the productivity of the finishing operation and eliminate operator errors when loading geometrically similar parts. The introductory part of the thesis includes a technological review and an experimental measurement of the force exerted by the printing pad using a strain-gauge sensor. The measured peak force value of 1450 N serves as a fundamental parameter for subsequent calculations. The outcome of the thesis is the design of two fixture variants: a robust single-part fixture and a two-part fixture with an adjustment mechanism. The design utilizes precise linear guides together with a ball screw for smooth position correction in the x and y axes. A mechanism consisting of a micrometer and a spring is utilized for rotation correction. An active Poka-Yoke control system utilizing Factor 1 inductive sensors is integrated into the design. The static stiffness and strength of both assemblies are verified by numerical finite element method (FEM) analysis in ANSYS software.
