Abstract

This Bachelor paper deals with different design options of dipper arms for a mechanical shovel. Three conceptual options were scrutinized in an attempt at finding the best one. The "A" Option considers an undercutting dipper arm shorter than the boom. The "B" Option relies on the dipper arm as long as the boom. The "C" Option expects the arm to be longer than the boom. To choose the most suitable, optimal solution, the options will have their advantages and disadvantages assessed. A selected type of the machine, with the input parameters predetermined, will have the length of the arm calculated; the safety margin for tipping-over checked; and the performance tested. The results will be used to develop the relevant drawings. Finally, the paper will briefly discuss the maintenance and operational conditions.
