Abstract
This paper deals with the possibilities of using RFID technology to identify the location of railway vehicles on mine and siding rails in surface mines. It briefly describes the principles of location on Earth using technologies such as GSM and GPS, and the reasons why the use of RFID in this case is more advantageous. Then it describes the actual RFID technology, its origin, benefits and its use at a global scale. In the next section the paper describes the situation in the environment of mine railways, the specifics of this transport and used technologies. The paper then suggests how to position RFID technology components, what are the possible risks arising from the potential effects on existing systems such as wireless radios, remote controls and primarily, used railway signalling. It also suggests elimination of these risks and recommends what areas to focus on when testing in real environments.
