Abstract

Bachelor thesis deals with the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull and the consequences of the eruption of air travel. The introduction describes the dust aerosols and their impact on air transport. The following chapters are devoted to the troposphere, the tropopause and content of particulate matter in the atmosphere, characteristics and types of volcanic eruptions. It further describes the restrictions on air traffic caused by the eruption of volcanoes and contingency plans associated with the presence of volcanic ash in the atmosphere due to its harmful effects on air traffic operations. The aim of this thesis was to give a comprehensive view on the issue of volcanic ash and its impact on air transport, mainly associated with the eruption of the volcano Eyjafjallajökull in 2010.
