Abstract
The bachelor’s thesis deals with the possibilities of increasing the service life of weathering steels in aggressive environments, with a focus on Corten B-D steel. In the experimental part, five samples are prepared and subjected to accelerated patination by repeated spraying with a 3% salt solution and water. After the formation of the patina, one sample is left without surface protection as a reference sample, while three different coating systems intended for weathering steels are applied to the other three samples. The fifth sample is only patinated. Subsequently, four samples are exposed to an aggressive environment in a salt spray chamber for 30 days. After the exposure, the condition of the patina, the behavior of the patina under the coatings, and the degree of degradation of the coating systems are evaluated. The results are compared with each other and, based on this comparison, the most suitable coating system for the given type of steel in aggressive conditions is determined.
