Abstract
The submitted master thesis deals with the analysis of possible impacts of a model severe
accident involving a release of radioactive substances on the surroundings of the Dukovany Nuclear
Power Plant. The theoretical part describes the basic principles of nuclear safety, selected historical
nuclear accidents, the phenomenology of severe accidents, and systems important
for the prevention and mitigation of their consequences. Attention is also paid to the technical
arrangement of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, emergency planning, and methods used
for assessing the impact of radioactive releases.
The practical part focuses on a model severe accident scenario involving the release of selected
radionuclides, namely ¹³⁵Xe, ¹³¹I and ¹³⁷Cs. The HYSPLIT model was used to calculate atmospheric
dispersion and deposition, and its outputs were subsequently applied for an indicative assessment
of effective doses using the SRS 19 methodology. The results are evaluated for the locations
of Hrotovice, Třebíč and Jihlava over time intervals of 24 and 72 hours. The thesis compares
radiological impacts among the individual locations and radionuclides, evaluates the significance
of short-term iodine exposure and the longer-term effect of caesium deposition.
