Abstract

The aim of this diploma thesis is based on the comparison to find the causes that led to Slovakia adopted the Euro in 2009, while the Czech Republic is still waiting. Thesis consists 6 chapters, whereas the first chapter is an introduction. The second chapter focuses on the theoretical definition and development of monetary integration in Europe. This chapter describes the Economic and Monetary Union, the European Central Bank, the Stability and Growth Pact, the theory of optimum currency areas and other. The third chapter focuses on economic policy of the Czech Republic. The chapter is devoted to economic and political developments of the Czech Republic since 1993, to economic reforms, to the status of compliance with the Maastricht criteria, to the influence of the global economic crisis on the Czech economy. The fourth chapter describes the economic policies of the Slovak Republic. This chapter has similar content as the focus of Chapter Three. The fifth chapter is a comparison of the economic policies of the Czech and Slovak Republic of the euro adoption. The sixth chapter is ending.
