Abstract
This thesis is devoted to the design and building of a proprietary electric bicycle, which is able to develop a preset velocity. In the opening part of the thesis, I describe the existing principles and the design solutions used on the bicycles driven by an electric motor.
Following that survey, I propose my own design solution of a propulsive unit.
On the electric bicycle concerned the front wheel is driven by a roller chain transmission. The stress analysis is based on the calculated driving power needed for the mooted velocity of travel. For the proposal chosen, I have re-checked/calculated the already-built first prototype of the electric bicycle. For individual major assemblies that lacked the necessary strength properties, alternative solutions were found. According to the mechanical characteristics of the AC-motor, the transmission ratio at the roller chain driving a two-speed planetary gearbox was selected.
