Abstract

This thesis deals with the selection of a suitable maritime carrier using multi-criteria decision-making methods. Theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of the maritime transport market, its structure, and the role of international institutions influencing maritime transport operations. It also addresses legal aspects of maritime transport, including carrier liability, cargo insurance, and the importance of the bill of lading. This thesis also introduces the fundamentals of multi-criteria decision-making, including methods for determining criteria weights and evaluating alternatives. The practical part applies selected multi-criteria decision-making methods to the carrier selection problem. Carrier alternatives are assessed using the weighted ranking method and the linear utility function method.
