Abstract

This bachelor thesis deals with three point bend tests of artificial bones with femoral intramedullary nails, following creation of finite element models. Intramedullary nails are used for fixing the long bone fractures. Two artificial bones were tested. One bone was unbroken ("well") and one was carved up in subtrochanteric area ("broken"). From experiments we have obtained diagrams of dependency of loading on deflection. Then finite element model of bone with intramedullary nail length 320 mm solved by mechanical contacts was created. From this model we found values of stress. Then was created another finite element model, but instead of bone and rigid supports, elastic support was applied on the outer surface of nail. After comparison result of bend test and finite element model solved by mechanical contacts, there was found value of foundation stiffness approximately 0.52 N/mm^3. So evidently this model of intramedullary nail with elastic support can be used for relatively accurate stress-deformation analysis.
