Abstract
My thesis is based on the analysis of modular systems. Modular systems are made up of smaller units called modules. These systems help in aspects like repairability, lesser downtime, and efficiency in producing the parts. The individual modules that make up these assemblies are first designed. There are a total of seven proposed modules. Finite element method is used to analyse the assembly of the modules. The selected assemblies are of an overhead crane and a tower crane. The material assignment and selection of cross-section for the elements of the modules are done. The assembled systems are subjected to various external loading conditions like wind and snow other than its self weight and the lifting loads. A total of two load cases are tested so as to get a better idea of the behaviour of the structure. The deformation in the crane model and the stresses developed in the model are obtained as results. The results give a clear picture of the load handling capacity of the crane structures and the maximum load rating that can be assigned to this particular model.
