Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the implementation, assembly, and performance evaluation of a complete terahertz time-domain ellipsometry system. This technique extends the capabilities of conventional ellipsometric methods due to its ability to obtain the full Jones and Mueller matrices of a sample. The measured Jones matrices are subsequently transformed using mathematical procedures into the so-called Pauli exponential coefficients, which allow for a direct description of diattenuation and retardance. The capability of this method to meaningfully characterize the optical properties and anisotropy of materials is demonstrated on a quartz crystal.
