Abstract

The diploma thesis is deals with the comparison of ball and conical spindle milling cutters in the shape machining of Kaplan turbine blade surfaces. The introductory part describes the manufacturing technology, which includes model characterization, material and tool selection with cutting parameters. It also sets out the CAM software used for the fabrication. The aim of the paper is to compare the two tools and derive a more efficient method of machining the shaped surfaces. Based on the measured parameters, a techno-economic evaluation has been made which describes the cost, financial and time savings associated with the use of the tapered spindle tool.
