Abstract
The thesis examines the relative stress gradient method and the theory of critical distances for predicting the fatigue life of materials, focusing on the impact of notches. It aims to validate these methods through experimental fatigue tests on smooth and notched specimens of structural steel ČSN 411524 (equivalent to S355J2) under alternating tension/compression, torsion, and bending. The thesis includes a theoretical overview of material fatigue and a detailed explanation of the selected prediction methods. Experimental data are used to conduct a numerical analysis of notched specimens via the finite element method. The predicted fatigue lives are compared with experimental results to assess the accuracy and practical applicability of each method.
