Abstract

This dissertation is devoted to biomass processing technologies for energy purposes with the addition of organic and inorganic binders in different proportions. It deals with the characterization of the input material and binders mainly in terms of rheological properties. Technologies used for biomass processing are pelletization and subsequently torrefaction. All pellet samples before and after torrefaction are subjected to tests to determine mechanical-physical and thermochemical properties. The theoretical analysis of the thesis deals with knowledge about organic and inorganic binders and their influence on various properties of the input material. Furthermore, the work focuses on the description of the pelletization and torrefaction process. The practical part of this work provides a description of how the input material and binders are characterized in terms of rheology. Subsequently, the work contains a description of the measurement of mechanical-physical and thermochemical properties of pellets before and after torrefaction. The last part of this work focuses on the combustion of individual types of pellets and the evaluation of the parameters of this process, the Descrete Element Method (DEM) and the use of waste torrefied biomass for plant growth purposes (fertilizer). The practical application of this research consists in calculating the consumption of individual types of pellets for a model medium-sized enterprise.
