Abstract
BALUSEK, Jan. Conceptual Design of a 9mm Parabellum Silencer. Ostrava, 2026, Bachelor’s Thesis. Ostrava: VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Design (Department of Machine Parts and Mechanisms). 54 p., Thesis supervisor: Ing. Martin Červenka, Ph.D.
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of firearm noise suppression, focusing on the conceptual design of a suppressor for a 9 mm Parabellum pistol-caliber carbine. The theoretical part describes the origin of the acoustic signature of a gunshot, principles of internal, transitional, and external ballistics, and their influence on noise generation. It also analyzes suppressor design approaches, current technological trends, and materials used in their manufacturing, including their mechanical and thermal properties as well as degradation behavior.
The practical part focuses on the conceptual design of the suppressor, determination of its key parameters, and evaluation of thermal and mechanical loading. The design is developed as a 3D CAD model and includes an assessment of selected materials and construction elements. The aim of the thesis is to propose a functional suppressor concept with regard to efficiency, durability, and manufacturability.
