Abstract
In industries gasifier are used rare for the production of electricity, to run locomotives, to run boilers and furthermore because the emission of tar particles is more and the operation cost in high. Downdraft gasifier is widely used, and it is focused on a particular feedstock. In case of biomass gasification also only a particular type of biomass feedstock is used. The challenging aspect of the work is to eliminate the tar content from the hot producer gas in which it would choke all the working components of gasifier and the engines where it is used. Gas cleaning is a primary task because clean gas is very important for using as fuel. Gas cleaning is a tedious and expensive process and only big multinational companies are using various techniques for eliminating tar and hence it is not suitable for small scale industries. Hence the main objective of this project is to develop a robust gasifier to handle multiple biomass feedstocks such as rice husk, woodchips, and other crop residuals. Downdraft gasifier cannot operate on such feed materials. Fluid bed gasifier on the other hand can operate multiple feedstocks and eliminate maximum amount of tar content by a very logical operation and also considering its operation cost and hence a novel design is considered for the evaluation in this project.
