Abstract

SUCHÁNEK, Vojtěch. Grinding adapter for vertical turning center. Ostrava, 2026, Master’s Thesis. Ostrava: VSB – Technical university of Ostrava, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of 345, Thesis supervisor: doc. Ing. Leopold Hrabovský Ph.D. This master’s thesis deals with the structural design of an interchangeable grinding attachment intended for multifunctional vertical turning centers of the Powerturn series. The main objective of the thesis was to develop a technical solution eliminating the shortcomings of existing direct drives, particularly the insufficient rotational speed for grinding with smaller grinding wheel diameters and the negative effect of waste heat on the thermal stability of the machine ram. The proposed attachment utilizes an integrated transmission based on a synchronous belt, enabling an increase in the spindle output speed while simultaneously reducing the energy consumption of the primary drive. The thesis also includes the kinematic calculation of the transmission system, strength analysis of rotating components, the design of the bearing arrangement, and detailed drawings of the proposed design solution.
