Abstract

This master's thesis addresses the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with thermal imaging technology in search and rescue operations. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical definition of unmanned aircraft, their classification, areas of application, and the legislative framework governing their operation. Furthermore, it describes options for supplementary equipment, economic aspects of operation, including a comparison with alternatives, and the current use of unmanned systems by selected branches of the Integrated Rescue System. The practical part details the design and implementation of an experiment aimed at verifying the influence of selected factors on the detectability of a person in thermal imagery. The experiment was conducted in various environments and under different conditions, monitoring the effects of the person's posture, type of clothing, distance, and other set parameters on the resulting detectability of the thermal signature. The final section is dedicated to a discussion of the experimental results. Based on the obtained findings, a general procedure is proposed for the use of an unmanned system equipped with thermal imaging during search operations in the field.
