Abstract
This master thesis deals with the issue of employability, which can be generally understood as the ability to get a job that is an integral part of every person's life. Work as an activity serves to satisfy our needs, and so, from this reason, the question of employability in the labor market is so important. The main goal of this thesis is to quantify the importance of personal characteristics of an individual for his employability. For this purpose, was used the data of a questionnaire survey among Czech employees, which was carried out within the research project "Measurement of wage discrimination by gender" supported by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (No. GAP402/11/2464). These data provide detailed information on 1,982 Czech employees aged 25 to 54 years. Estimation of the ordinal logistic regression model allowed quantification between subjectively perceived employability and groups of potential determinants. Surprisingly, the results did not confirm a statistically significant correlation between perceived employability and some expected determinants (e.g., level of education or length of practice), but identified several of the other factors that are closely related to employability. These factors are the specialization of the performed work, the number of previous employers, job security preferences, the individual's willingness to take risks, the number and age of the employee's children, etc. These results show that subjectively perceived employability is more influenced by an individual's attitude than by his objectively measurable education or practice.
